Engineering Marvel: How Giant Modules Journeyed Thousands of Miles for a Green Revolution

In a groundbreaking logistics endeavor, India’s Express Global Logistics (EXG) has triumphantly completed the transport of enormous modules to Saudi Arabia, a cornerstone in a revolutionary green hydrogen initiative.

Remarkable Scale and Complexity

Each of these colossal units weighs in at an impressive 250 tonnes, playing a critical role in the advancement of this innovative project. EXG took on the extraordinary task of moving 14 mammoth structures, each stretching 50 meters in length, 12 meters in width, and towering 18 meters high. The combined weight of these modules approached a staggering 1,500 freight tonnes.

Advanced Transportation Techniques

The success of this monumental operation hinged on state-of-the-art Scheuerle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT), part of EXG’s own Megaload assortment. The transporters, equipped with 48 axle lines and dual robust engines, handled these immense structures with the help of specially designed spacers. A sophisticated roll-on roll-off system facilitated the transit of eight modules using strategic ramps and steadfast supports for secure vessel loading. Meanwhile, the remaining six modules were expertly transferred to a jetty using SPMTs before being meticulously hoisted by crawler cranes.

The Team Behind the Success

EXG’s adept engineering and operations personnel adeptly surmounted numerous logistical challenges to accomplish this demanding task. Crucial to their success was the meticulous ballasting of vessels to maintain stability during the modules’ transoceanic journey.

Looking forward, EXG has embarked on a promising collaboration named Megaload, launched in January 2023 with Italy’s Fagioli. This joint venture broadens their industry expertise, targeting sectors like petrochemical and construction with cutting-edge lifting solutions.
